Intense, thought provoking and razor-sharp lyrics, Agent Sasco has dropped his newest single “No Gangsta”, an ode to one of the greatest films in American history, and a song which encompasses maintaining a powerful influence without exerting unnecessary pressure.
Agent Sasco, whose given name is Jeffrey Campbell, said the concept came primarily from the mood and atmosphere of smooth flow of the rhythm, backed by a crisp beat that evokes a musical sojurn. “The rhythm has an old dancehall gangsta vibe, when I heard it, it brought back memories of the popular movie, ‘The Godfather’”, he explained. With that, the artiste, known for his clever and witty vocals decided to pen the lyrics to capture an influential character who is the man in charge, demanding respect, but not having to fight or brag to stamp authority.
The song kicks off on an addictive beat, with the lyrics “Respect due, anywhere we walk, no bwoy can’t give wi no talk, but I’m no gangsta. Inna mi white tees and mi jeans cut off, mi a bwoy love wear mi desert Clarkes, but I’m no gangsta…”
Agent Sasco points out that in any arena, profession or career, being a leader means employing dedication, and attaining milestones that demonstrate your leadership and dominance, but of paramount importance is working hard to maintain that status to ensure that your position is not challenged negatively. “Having a foundation in your area of expertise allows you to influence those around you, while you set the pace for the environment in which you operate,” he added.

Speaking about the lyrics of the song, Agent Sasco explained that he decided to redefine the idea of a gangster, from being someone who is a menace to society or a downright troublemaker, leaning more to someone who demands respect in the streets. “When we say ‘I’m no gangsta’ it doesn’t mean I will back down from a fight. The lyrics ‘Dem fi know, seh nuh bwoy can’t diss, but yuh nah go see mi pon di wanted list’ shows that we respect the law, but we are protective of our family and territory and will defend what is ours.”
Agent Sasco said it was a success working with Majah Label Music Group, and they delivered well the expectations he had of them prior to working them. He first heard of Majah Label while having talks with fellow artiste and colleague Wayne Marshall, who touted the duo of Kimani Smith and Roel Powell, as young, talented producers who show immense promise in evolving Jamaican music culture.
Agent Sasco added, “Working with them is great so far. I have experienced for myself their positive and efficient attitude towards music production. Vibes and energy are crucial elements for making excellent music and I believe that Majah Label possesses the perfect balance of these.” Smith of Majah Label Music Group agreed the energy flowed freely in the studio while producing the song. “We had fun with the track, and we look forward to collaborating on more projects,” he said.
